Store Everything Securely in Wuala

The more commonly used cloud storage services, such as Dropbox and Google Drive are very convenient and user-friendly, but when we talk about security, they are definitely not the best possible options. Data transfer is typically not protected and the companies who own them are able to access your digital data any time. Of course, they say they would not, but despite that, they are capable of doing it.

Documents such as business agreements and other sensitive data should be protected by all means. That is why one of the services, particularly recommended for its security benefits, is Wuala.

It basically works as a desktop or mobile application for data backup and file synchronization. It offers a 5 GB free plan, and the Wuala paid plans start from 20GB for $4 per month. It is supported on Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. To use the Wuala service, you need to install its application on your computer or mobile device. When you do so, the application appears as follows when it is ready to use:

Initially it gives you four preliminarily created folders where you can backup your files. Using the Add button you can also add files and folders which need to be synchronized. You can also add files for backup and create public and private groups for your stored files.

Wuala’s service encrypts your files locally before sending them to the cloud. This service differs from the mainstream cloud storage providers in two ways. The first one is the client-side encryption of files. All of your files are encrypted locally on your device before being sent to the cloud, which ensures that even on a non-encrypted transfer, no readable data would leak out. The other way is the policy of Wuala not to have access to your passwords. Only you know your password, and therefore only you can access your account. Unfortunately, if you lose your password, you will also not have access to your files anymore.

When you click on the Add Sync function, you need to manually locate your files in the system and add them for synchronization.

When you have already selected the folders you are about to sync, you will notice the synchronization and backup process running in the application.

When your files are already synced, you can right-click on any of your folders and make use of the additional features that appear in the drop-down menu. You can also favorite a folder by clicking the star sign that appears to the left of your folder.

Shortly, Wuala provides a very easy to use application for your file backup and synchronization needs. It works like any other Sync tool, but with the benefit of being especially secure. No worries about your sensitive files anymore.
