hubiC - cloud storage for beginners

People are different, so it's a given they'll use cloud storage for different purposes as well. You have to store your files somewhere, but you're still not sure whether to give cloud storage providers a shot? If it's like that, I think that we may have found a formidable solution for you!

Although not popular, hubiC is an online storage provider that sets its base in France, Europe. It offers 25GB of free storage you can upgrade up to 10TB with the service's premium plans. And if you're not keen on spending a lot of money, it's perfectly fine as hubiC offers one of the cheapest paid packages out there.

In the paragraphs below, we unveil hubiC's actual potential

Online storing

As outlined in the beginning, hubiC gives a 25GB free account. This is surely a generous amount of storage, considering the average providers offer from 5 to 15GB. The service also maintains a desktop client that creates a virtual drive on your PC. However, keep in mind that your account has an expiration date, which in my case is a year.

Automatic synchronization

This feature works buttery smooth. Every newly uploaded file was almost instantly available on both desktop and mobile applications

File sharing

Sharing your files with hubiC is relatively easy. To do that you just have to click on the share icon to the right of the file. A download link will be generated, which you can send through email, Facebook, Twitter, Google+. Or if these options aren't enough, you can just copy the link and share it manually. The duration of every link can set to either 5, 10 or 30 days.

No maximum file size

Truly, uploading and downloading files and folders was fast and pleasant. However, saying "no file size limit" isn't exactly true for hubiC's web application. If you want to upload files larger than 1GB, well, good luck.

Design

hubiC's design may as well be just the thing for first-time cloud storage users. It has an over-simplified user interface with conveniently placed option buttons. Every new account comes with 3 preset folders: Documents, Images and Videos, which you can always delete and start anew.

Security

As I mentioned earlier, hubiC is a French online storage platform. It stores users' information in three SSL secured data centres in Roubaix, Gravelines and Strasbourg. They are property of OVH, or in other words: the company, which has developed hubiC. All the data placed in these data centres is subject to French legislation, making them more secure than US-based ones. Putting that aside, I wouldn't recommend sharing sensitive files with the provider, as there are no encryption features currently present.

To our beliefs, hubiC is perfect for cloud storage beginners, who need a temporary place to store their data. It has the basic features every such service offers and a clean interface to go with them. Your account lasts for a year, meaning that you won't be further engaged, in case it's not to your liking. Withal, if you're looking for something more than just storage, hubiC's most likely not the service for you.
